Mission & Values

Our Mission

To create a digital ecosystem that enhances human well-being, fosters authentic connections, and supports sustainable living through technology that respects user sovereignty and privacy.

CyberEco is building the alternative to the extractive technology model. We believe that digital tools should serve people -- not advertising networks, not engagement metrics, and not quarterly earnings reports. Every design decision we make answers a single question: Does this bring us closer to a world where users own their digital lives?

Our Story

CyberEco was born from the frustration of seeing technology increasingly designed to extract value from users rather than provide it. We witnessed social media platforms optimizing for addiction, financial apps charging hidden fees, and data being harvested without meaningful consent. We knew there had to be a better way.

Starting with JustSplit, a simple expense-sharing app, we proved that useful software does not need to exploit its users. Now we are building an entire ecosystem of applications based on principles of digital sovereignty, privacy, and human-centered design.

Where We Are Today

  • 3 live applications -- Hub, JustSplit, and the CyberEco Website
  • 4 priority apps in development -- Somos, Demos, Plantopia, and Marketplace
  • 30+ planned solutions covering finance, community, sustainability, education, health, identity, travel, and technology

Core Values

1. Digital Sovereignty

Users own their data, identity, and digital presence.

Every data type supports export in standard formats (JSON, CSV). Every data type supports deletion (GDPR right to erasure). No vendor lock-in -- not to Firebase, not to AWS, not to us. The StorageAdapter interface exists specifically to guarantee this. If a design decision makes it harder for users to leave the platform, we reject it.

2. Human-Centered Design

Technology serves people, not profit metrics.

We build features that make life genuinely better, not features that maximize screen time. No dark patterns, no engagement-optimized notifications, no algorithmic manipulation. APIs default to paginated responses, notifications are deduplicated, and rate limiting protects both the system and the user.

3. Radical Transparency

Open development, clear business models, honest communication.

Our data layer packages are open source (open-core: the @cyber-eco/* packages are Apache-2.0, the Hub platform is proprietary). Our architectural decisions are documented publicly. Our business model does not depend on advertising or data brokerage. When we make mistakes, we communicate them openly and fix them promptly.

4. Long-term Thinking

Building for decades, not quarterly reports.

CyberEco is funded without venture capital, which means we face no pressure to grow at the expense of our users. We take the time to build things correctly. Our roadmap extends to 2035 and beyond, with a deliberate, phased transition from centralized infrastructure to a fully decentralized, user-sovereign ecosystem.

Platform Philosophy

Our approach to building technology is shaped by four commitments that set CyberEco apart from conventional platforms.

Privacy First

Your data stays yours. Always. Permissions are checked on every operation -- not assumed. No "open" collections. Minimum data principle: APIs return only what the requester is authorized to see. GDPR compliance is built into the architecture, not bolted on as an afterthought.

Privacy by Architecture

The DataLayerService orchestrator checks permissions before every read and write. If you add a new API endpoint and forget to add permission checks, the system will deny the request by default.

No Venture Capital

We grow sustainably without pressure to exploit users. There is no board demanding aggressive growth targets, no investors pushing for data monetization, and no exit strategy that requires selling user information. CyberEco's success is measured by the well-being of its community, not by shareholder returns.

Community Governance

Users have a real voice in platform development. As CyberEco matures, governance will transition from a core team model to a community-driven model powered by the CYE token. Quadratic voting ensures that broad consensus matters more than concentrated influence.

Open Source When Possible

Transparency and community contribution are foundational. Our data layer packages are open source. Our architecture documents are public. External developers can build CyberEco-compatible apps by consuming published packages, without needing access to the monorepo.

The Future We Are Building

By 2035, we envision CyberEco as a fully decentralized ecosystem where users have complete sovereignty over their digital lives. No central servers, no data harvesting, no surveillance capitalism -- just useful tools that make life better.

Timeframe Milestone
2025-2026 Centralized foundation: robust apps on traditional infrastructure
2027-2029 P2P and tokenomics: mesh networking, CRDTs, CYE token testnet
2030-2035 Hybrid transition: decentralized features while maintaining compatibility
2035+ Full decentralization: P2P network, self-sovereign storage, DAO governance

Guiding Question

"Does this bring us closer to a world where users own their digital lives and developers can build on a shared, open foundation?"

If the answer is no, we do not build it.
